The mission of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church's Music Ministry is in harmony with the principles of Sacrosanctum Concilium – Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy from the Second Vatican Council. This important document states:
“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn Liturgy.
Therefore sacred music is to be considered the more holy in proportion as it is more closely connected with the liturgical action, whether it adds delight to prayer, fosters unity of minds, or confers greater solemnity upon the sacred rites.
…The purpose of sacred music…is the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful…”
Our music ministry is 100% volunteer based. Our parish musicians serve as instrumentalists, cantors, and vocalists in our choir. We place a special emphasis on the involvement of our young people in the music ministry; instilling in our youth the importance of good stewardship of talents is essential to the future of the Church.
